Our climate, our children, our responsibility

UNICEF launched a competition called the Big Climate Callout a few months ago – giving four young people, aged 14-17, the chance to go to the Children’s Climate Forumin Copenhagen this winter. The forum is being organised by UNICEF and will happen the week before COP15. Young people from around the world will unite together and voice our generation’s concerns on the climate crisis.

I still can’t believe that I was chosen out of around 200 applicants to attend the forum. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried when I found at!

We had our first training session in London over the weekend, and it was great to meet the rest of the team and get to know them better. I can’t wait to spend time with them over the next few months – they’re all lovely, including the UNICEF staff. The meeting was quite overwhelming at times, whilst we were discussing meeting Ed Milliband (The Secretary of State for Climate Change and Energy) and Douglas Alexander  (Secretary of State for Inernational Development). We were also given a vague outline about what to expect in the Forum at Copenhagen, and by the sounds of it we are going to be very tired and busy! I am so excited though, and we all seemed to have similar ideas and goals for Copenhagen.

We will be blogging on Tagd – the UNICEF young people’s website – soon, so keep an eye out for updates on our activites: www.tagd.org.uk.

We are also hoping to get involved in campaigns to get Gordon Brown to COP15, and are looking at getting lots of young people’s names on a petition. I’ll keep you posted on our progress :)

And lucky, lucky me, I’m going on holiday tomorrow :) However, then it means school time once again…And that means A Levels…and univeristy applications…and…the list goes on…

Happy holidays x
